That Thing I Was Gonna Show Ya (5 Dec. 2010)

Here's David Sedaris reading "Six To Eight Black Men", a Christmas essay which is rapidly becoming the new "Yes Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus" for NPR listeners and other weirdos across the country! Also several people I know. The categories overlap quite a bit, actually.

Question for discussion: Does the Krampus freak you out more or less as a Christmas figure than the Sinterklaas labor arrangement?

Also, a timely reminder: Did Pedophiles Start The Facebook Profile Cartoon Trend? Spoilers: the answer is "No."

As a grizzled Internet veteran, I find it much easier to believe that a bunch of college kids came up with the idea to "de-people" the Facebook profile pictures just to see if it could be done, and then came up with a plausible explanation that made it fun and meaningful. But try to follow the logic chain of the counter-meme: because kids are lured to accounts represented by cartoon characters, somehow by changing your account pic to a cartoon character you're giving a pedophile you've never met a power-up? It doesn't make sense at all. The short version: rock on, cartoony freaks.
